Happy Birthday!

Every year I anxiously await this weekend. After a long winter and a cold damp spring, this long weekend signifies the beginning of summer for me and many other canadians.

Victoria Day celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday (May 24th). Canada is still a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, of which the Queen is head.

Victoria Day is always on a Monday, and thus the holiday is part of a long weekend, which is commonly referred to as the Victoria Day Weekend, the May Long Weekend or the May Two-Four (a case of beer here is called a "two-four" and many of these are consumed over the holiday).

For me, this weekend is always the time to open my garden. My husband is banned from using the truck as I need it to fill it to the brim with flowers, dirt, mulch, some vegtable plants and whatever else should catch my eye......and that's just what I did today.

It's been a long tiring day....I'm very dirty, sticky and not very pretty smelling, so it's off to the showers for me. I will post pics of all my beautiful finds very soon.

Where to begin.......

My 1st post.....where oh where to begin.

I actually have a lot on mind today and I'm afraid I could scare everyone with some serious verbal diarrhea. I'll try to avoid that the best I can....diarrhea is not pleasant in any form.

Windows. New windows for our old house. Yes, I've been lusting after new windows for our house for over a year now. Since hubby was layed off from December 2008 to January 2010, new windows were put on the back burner.
Hubby starts working again (in another province I might add) in January. YAY...new windows soon! NOT! Hubby gets laid off in early February.
Hubby starts working again mid February. YAY....new windows soon! NOT! Hubby gets laid off beginning of April.
Holy Halleluiah.....geeeeeez Louise....*&@k!!!

This economy sucks and I hate it. I know there's a lot of you that can relate with me. I am not an extravagant person by any means. I'll go into my love for "thriftiness" in another post but seriously, is it too much to ask that a hard working, punctual, "good help is hard to find" kind of guy remains employed so I get some new windows???

Anyways....back to the window story.... So hubby comes back home to Ontario on April 20th....exactly 3 months to the day he left. Still layed off but still fortunate enough to be able to draw unemployment....every bit helps. (Lucky) 13 days later he is called back to work here in Ontario and knock on wood, he's still working today.

So........I pull the plug on getting the windows. Yup gave our $x,xxx.00 deposit, windows ordered on May 11th! Windows will be here and ready for installation in a few weeks. Sounds great doesn't it.........

Yeah right.......last night I head upstairs to the spare bedroom, all but to notice bubbling paint on the ceiling in the alcove. Sweet. Just freakin' sweet, the blasted roof is leaking. We knew that in a few years we would require new shingles on the house....but not today. Not after we've just signed the contract and paid for our new windows.

So here we are today....new windows on the way and a series of phone calls in my immediate future to get some quotes for a new damn roof.
